Art is an expedition sent out to map the uncharted boundaries of perception. Like all journeys of exploration, the initial goal may turn out to be nothing more than a convenient justification to poke under leaves and turn the rusty hinges of unopened doors. When all is said and done, the banner planted on a distant plain or the cairn piled on a windswept crest may just be a foootnote to the stories and specimens collected along the way.
